Loose Ends, New Beginnings, and Big Changes

Wow, where to begin? Lots of stuff going on in Patti-landia, and most of it is pretty great, so I wanted to share with you all some changes that you’ll see going forward.

First, LearnReligions (formerly AboutDotCom and ThoughtCo) has made the decision that they no longer need their freelance contractors on most of their sites, so as of February 29, I will cease creating new content for LearnReligions. I’ve been with them nearly thirteen years, starting the Paganism & Wicca pages from scratch in June 2007, and it’s been one heck of a ride, opening up some really amazing opportunities for me through the course of my career.

What this means is that while you’ll still be able to view the acres and acres of content I wrote for LearnReligions over there on their site, I’m not writing any new stuff for them, and will not be editing or updating any of my existing material on LR (so if you find a typo, sorry, pumpkin, it’s there forever).

But that’s okay, because it means I’ll be able to post all of my new material here on Outside the Lines… and I won’t be restricted as to what I can publish because of word counts or SEO algorithms. In other words, you get pure unfiltered me in all of my snarky glory, without me fretting about whether an idea I pitched is going to be approved.

Something else it means is that now I’ll have the free time to do something I’ve wanted to do for years, which is create a series of live online courses, allowing people to attend my workshops from anywhere in the world. I’m super excited about this! For the better part of a decade, any time I’ve hosted an event, I get messages from people disappointed they can’t attend because it’s nowhere near where they are. Thanks to the magic of Zoom meetings, you’ll be able to hang out with me, live, from the comfort of your very own living room! Honestly, I don’t even care if you wear pants. You do you, boo.

Keep an eye on my Events page, because I’ll be adding classes periodically throughout the coming months. I’ve already got a 5-part Tarot series and three more sessions of my Ancestors course scheduled in partnership with Erzulie’s Conjure Garden, and I’ll be adding classes on Money Magic, Magical Self Defense, Spiritual Decluttering, and Spellcrafting & Ritual for Solitaries. If there’s another topic you’d like to see, let me know, and I’ll see what I can do!

Also, now that I’m not under contractual restrictions from LR, I’m free to write guest posts for other websites — if you run a Pagan or witchy space on the web, I’m happy to create custom unique content just for you and your readers!

Finally, I’ll be able to spend more time writing books — I’ve got two coming out in 2020, Herb Magic and Badass Ancestors — and I’ve got a half dozen more that I’ll be pitching to publishers to see what sticks… as well as a couple of other Secret Projects that I’ll share with you soon. In other words, I’ve got plenty to keep me busy now that I’m not writing for LearnReligions anymore, and the people who benefit the most from that will be YOU!
