Why I’m Excited About Witchcraft for Healing
Okay, I know that some people think that books just magically appear on Amazon, and that anyone who wants to write one can just wiggle their fingers at a laptop for a few hours and then BOOM a book pops out, but the fact is, it’s a lot of hard work. It’s months of research, followed by the actual creation of the content, and then a bunch of editors do their thing, the author has to go back and make revisions ad nauseum… it goes on for a looooong time. But I love it. I enjoy the entire process, especially when I’m writing about something that excites me. One of…

After a ton of hard work behind the scenes for the past several months — which included writing a whole entire book during a global freakin’ pandemic — I’m thrilled to finally announce that I have a new book coming out, Witchcraft for Healing: Radical Self-Care for Your Mind, Body and Spirit, available from Rockridge Press on November 10! Ain’t No Party Like a Yard Ghost Party
When I moved a couple of years ago, I discovered that while I had about five boxes of Yule decor, I had over two dozen boxes of Halloweenery – it’s my favorite time of year! And this is one of my favorite decorations to put out – every fall, random strangers would stop and take pictures of my front yard, because of all the Halloween nonsense, and this group of ghosts was always a huge hit. Here’s how you can make your own, with about $20 worth of random supplies. For each ghost, you’ll need the following: 1 4-foot length of 2″ PVC pipe, cut with a 45′ angle on…

Samhain Divination
Y’all, it’s the spooky season, and with 2020 being an absolute dumpster fire of a year, many of us are spending more time at home, and that means more time to work on spiritual growth. For me, although I work on divination all year long, the Samhain season is an especially powerful time of year to work with my guides, my ancestors, and those across the veil. In many agricultural societies, a popular pastime at Samhain was that of divining the name of one’s future lover. Some revealed a face, others an initial or even a full name. These traditional methods were practiced in rural societies for centuries. You can…

The Magic of the Woolly Bear
The woolly bear, sometimes called the woolly worm, is a well-known harbinger of weather to come. If you do any sorts of workings involving weather magic, it’s not a bad idea to keep an eye on these crawly critters, which are typically seen during the end of summer and into late fall. Where I live, they’re starting to pop up already — of course, in my neck of the woods, our seasons are Winter, More Winter, Construction, August, and Football (at least during non-Covid years), so take that with a grain of salt. At any rate, the woolly bear, which is the larval stage of the tiger month, has black…

Setting Up Your Ancestor Altar
I’m pleased to announce that I have a little something for you over at the Llewellyn Journal! Setting up an ancestor altar is often the cornerstone, the very foundation, of working with your extended network of kin and clan for spiritual empowerment and personal growth. Much like a garden, with some regular tending—and a bit of occasional weeding—it can become a place where your spiritual work blooms and flourishes. By putting an ancestor altar in place in your home, and giving your people a space of their own, you’re carrying on a tradition found around the world, going back thousands of years. Read about Nine Things to Keep On Your…

A Reaping Blessing for the Equinox
Back in September 2017, I had the privilege of presenting a workshop at Dayton Pagan Pride Day, which was one of the best PPD events I’ve ever attended. That year’s theme was Walking Our Earthen Path, and main ritual was hosted by Selena Fox of Circle Sanctuary. This was the first time I’ve met Selena in person, although I’ve been following her online for years, and she is an absolutely delightful human being. Selena invited the presenters to participate in main ritual, and asked each of us to contribute an invocation or chant focusing on the theme of celebrating the earth. Since it was time to celebrate the fall equinox,…

Demeter, Persephone, and the Feel of Fall
Where I live, autumn hasn’t quite rolled in yet – it’s still hot and humid and gross, but the minute September 1st popped onto the calendar, people started acting like it was fall. For me personally, I don’t really start thinking about fall until around my birthday, which is at the end of this month. It’s usually starting to cool down at night by then, there’s a slight crispness to the mornings, and even if the sun is out and the sky is blue, there’s a feeling in the air that everything is about to change. I’ve always loved the story of Persephone and her mother, Demeter, because their story…
